ECG requests
ECG requests from outside services
Our practice does not carry out ECGs requested by external organisations or teams, including mental health services, Right to Choose providers, private physicians or other specialist services.
The clinician or service requesting an ECG is responsible for arranging the investigation, ensuring that it is clinically appropriate, interpreting the result and acting on any findings. General Practice is not commissioned or resourced to undertake investigations on behalf of other services.
Where an ECG is clinically necessary as part of the care being provided by our practice, a GP or other appropriately trained practice clinician may arrange it following clinical assessment. This does not include undertaking an ECG solely to support treatment, monitoring or prescribing decisions made by an external team.
Patients should contact the requesting service directly to arrange the ECG or discuss alternative arrangements. We are not able to interpret or follow up ECGs arranged for an external service.
